The Charente is the French department that has the most
of Romanesque constructions.
We are a department with different landscapes and varied: landscape of valleys with the Charente river, vineyard landscapes around Cognac, hilly landscape, landscapes of plains and field crops in North Charente, lakes towards the East Charente. History is also very present, with its prehistoric caves, its castles, its Roman baths.
What beautiful things to discover in this paradise of nature!
By hiking, by bike, by canoe, by boat, on horseback, discover all the riches of this department. Monuments to visit, archaeological sites, vineyards,
towns and villages, events throughout the year,
markets, flea markets:
VERTEUIL SUR CHARENTE
Beautiful village on the banks of the Charente, located 6 kms from Ruffec. You can park in the center of the village, come to see the old water mill. The banks here are very picturesque with gardens, trees and willows next to the water, a small dam and the waterfall next to the castle.
The convent of the Cordeliers of the 15th century is on an island in the river. The castle is a very impressive site, with several imposing towers with slate conical roofs overlooking Verteuil-sur-Charente and the river. It is generally considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in the Charente region

ANGOULÊME
Historic center, Prefecture of the department of Charente, located 40 kms from Ruffec, offers more than 2 kms of ramparts.
It is full of historical monuments, small pedestrian streets in the city center. Several museums are worth visiting: a museum of fine arts, a museum of archeology, the paper museum and of course the museum of comics.
Indeed, every year, in January, is held the International Comic Strip Festival, a must-attend event for the city.
COGNAC
Many visits and tastings are waiting for you at COGNAC.
There is also a medieval part, a castle, the public gardens and the old town, the Museum of Cognac Arts and the Museum of Arts and Stories. Barge rides on the river Charente are organized.
Experience the cognac experience with the cellars and distilleries open to the public.

LE MARAIS POITEVIN
Located about 1 hour form the camping
Offered without a guide or with a guide, these two walking offers are not comparable. Without a guide, the shipping company gives you a boat and a canal plan. Then it’s up to you to play. With guide, a boatman takes place aboard the boat to row but also, and above all, to bring you many information on the Marais Poitevin. Topics as varied as history, landscape architecture, gastronomy or fauna and flora will be discussed. To fully enjoy your walk, prefer departures early in the morning or late afternoon. During these periods, the light is more beautiful and there are many fewer people in the marsh.
